"Very well then," said the old traveller, with an odd smile.
"I like my head and am not about to give it up to just anybody..."
The old man walked over to an overturned tree, lifted his tattered robe off the ground and sat down upon the log with the aid of his walking stick, all the while both Claw's and the girl's weapons were careful trained upon him. He looked up at them.
"You know, this is what I mean! I feel like at any second one of you are going to up and skin me alive!" He chuckled.
He smiled and then took on a more serious look.
"Please forgive me for leading the both of you astray. Please know that I did so in the interest of what has been, what is, and what will be again. Claw, your group of fellow travelers were given a mission. A mission set upon you by the very King of Romaly himself, to retrieve the sacredotal Crown of Ages - hewn an eternity ago within the Forge of Ancients, long forgotten by time and land alike. Do these names sound unfamiliar to you?" The old man said in response to the confused look upon Claw's face.
"They have not been uttered for a hundred ages save the Mages of Romaly! Know now that the Crown of Ages is no trinket of glamour alone- 'tis an artifact of immense power! Forged within the crown is water - but no ordinary water - blessed water gleaned from the few sacred elven fountains that were said to have been drawn from the othe realm of existence, beyond the veil! Such power was never meant to be yielded by man - and the priests of Romaly have sought to use this artifact in ritual - a ritual wherein once the crown is placed upon the statue of their god, Om, and the other elements are in place: a human sacrifice, the elven Crystal of Eternity, and the Runes of Qabil, all of which they now posses, within their hidden temples will arise a power so great, even the greatest sorcerer alive could not contain it. Once Om, or what they think is Om, is reawakened, the world will forever be in the grasp of a dark, malevolent power for the rest of its existence! Why you may ask? Because the Mages of Romaly know not what they do; their intent has become muddled with the demands of "civilization", and once this intent, dormant within their minds, becomes manifest, it will intensify there inner worlds of thought and feeling to become so great from joining with the Great Power that it will create a new dimension of which we will all be apart! And there will be no turning back! The elven mages of old possesed the wisdom needed to wield such energy for good, the Mages of Romaly do not, or should I say, do not have the capacity? The Mages of Romaly lost the crown to Kansler, and so now the King calls him a thief! In truth it is Kansler who is the last great elven heir left- for it 'tis his blood that flows with the same breath as that of the sacred waters within the Crown! And because of the power therein, he is it's sworn protector, to prevent the power from ever being yielded by the wrong intent! Know now that the mission presented to you in the throne room of the castle was but a coo - a trick, if you will, simply intended to draw out those that might be willing to fight and so could quite easily become a problem. Instead, they sent you to Kansler to do their bidding! Hah! Kansler is his worldly name, his true name I cannot reveal to you for your own safety, I'm afraid. I chose you two because, upon watching your group, Claw, it became apparent that this would be the only way the message could get to your group without bloodshed. I tell you this now such that as you venture forward, in the events to come, you will all know what the right thing to do will be. Know that the priests within the castle would just assume have you all killed and done away with, as you are the last of the warriors of truth and virtue within this kingdom - an intent not so easily in existence with theirs! You must find Kansler before the Royal gaurd does, and when you do, deliver this to him.." Gilgamore reached into his robes, and pulled out a wand. "I crafted this thinking of Gelmir and HIS exact forearm length- ahh Confounded! Well, now you know so it's too late. DO NOT utter his name, ever! The trees have ears and Romaly has its spies, surely they have sent those to see where you will come out of this forest; they dare not enter but watch the edges constantly because the priests know I have dwelt here from time to time. Give this wand to Kansler when you see him, he will know what to do from there. Oh- and if I'm not mistaken, he'll probably not be in human form when you find him, for he was turned into a bird of prey by the priests upon escaping - their own mistake!"
Suddenly from the shadows the two could hear the cries of Claw's group "Claw!! Claw!!"
"My timing is off lately.." said Gilgamore. "And her purpose in this whole sharade?" Gilgamore asked for Claw, gesturing towards the girl he recently met.
"She's the one they need to sacrifice!" he said with both eyebrows raised.
Gilgamore raised both hands, staff in one hand, the other empty, and then brought them quickly to prayer position. Gilgamore bowed his head and as he did so a light flashed all around him that could be seen by the Warrior, Knight, Thief, and Blacksmith alike, as well as the girl, who had more questions than all of them!
